When one of my friends mentioned the term holistic lifestyle, I immediately had in mind green smoothies, essential oils, avoiding fast food like the plague and breathing in plenty of fresh air.

To be honest, I wasn’t that far from the real meaning of it, but later I realized that there was so much more to it than I thought!

WHAT EXACTLY IS A HOLISTIC LIFESTYLE?

 

Holistic living is defined as a lifestyle where you observe everything as a whole.

A Holistic approach doesn’t see health issues as something solely physical. Instead, it suggests that the root of our sickness can be emotional or psychological and not just physiological.

Simplified, the background of our sickness is not only physical, it also includes our body, mind, and soul which are all interconnected. 

Our body, mind, and soul are all aspects of a chain that is responsible for our well-being.

So, everything that happens to us can be explained only by reference to all of these aspects (to the whole) because health problems and way of living are never connected to only one aspect.

And all of this leads us to the main definition: A holistic lifestyle is an inspiring, healthy lifestyle where you take special care of THE WHOLE – your body, mind and soul.

This type of lifestyle includes natural remedies, physical activity, whole foods and superfood, detox, yoga class, and other healthy habits that can improve our daily lives and overall health in a natural way.

So, contrary to conventional medicine, holistic health is all about listening to our body and soul and focusing on finding natural remedies and natural ways of dealing with everyday struggles.

Holistic lifestyle is, without a doubt, one of the most effective ways to reaching your full potential and living a healthy and happy life

Just think of the fact that you won’t need to spend tons of money on all those artificial products advertised on TV that are supposed to trigger weight loss overnight.

You will not have to waste tons of your money on conventional medicine that is only concerned with the physical aspect and, most importantly, way more harmful than helpful.

Once you start practicing a holistic lifestyle, both your physical health and mental health will flourish in no time and at a minimum cost!

You know what they say: “We are what we eat”. So, if we constantly eat pizza, we will start looking like pizza. (Just kidding, right…)

If we eat junk food on repeat, we will definitely start gaining weight, our overall health will suffer, and we will be more prone to diseases because of our damaged immune system.

And when you combine all of that, you get a grumpy, dissatisfied, and unhappy human being, and that is why the food we consume makes us who we are.

That is why the holistic lifestyle suggests consuming organic food without harmful ingredients and chemical preservatives of any kind.

I know what you’re thinking right now! “But organic food is way more expensive than any other food!” I understand it perfectly, but just think about how much money you will have to spend on your health due to all that junk food.

Isn’t it the same amount of money (and probably much less) that you could have spent on organic food instead and preserved your health at the same time? (Just food for thought!)

 

2. Incorporate stress management techniques

 

Our busy, modern lives have turned us into robots. All of that stress and negative thoughts that have been accumulating at work and during other stressful situations will explode someday.

This explosion is not going to be pleasant nor healthy.

If you have a cold or flu, don’t immediately start searching for antibiotics, but try natural remedies like ginger, garlic, and vitamin C instead. Instead of drinking tons of pain killers for your cuts (or scrapes), use the power of honey, arnica, and tea tree oil.

I won’t lie to you. Before starting my holistic lifestyle “trial”, I used to do the same thing.

I wasn’t really picky about what I put on my skin as long as I was persuaded by the media that it would do the trick. (But, it never did.)

I was actually doing more harm than good to myself, and once I discovered the magic of organic coconut oil, my skin literally flourished. In no time, I’ve become a coconut “addict” feeling better than ever before!

6. Incorporate some form of exercise into your daily life

 

Jogging, walking, hitting the gym, doing some yoga are all excellent ways to boost your endorphins (happiness hormones) and feel better instantly!

I don’t even have to accentuate the importance of staying active in today’s busy modern life where some of us spend a tremendous amount of time sitting at their job.

If you’re constantly oozing with negative energy absorbed from toxic people, people you love will also be drained by it as well. It’s a vicious, toxic cycle that is extremely dangerous for all of us.

Our thoughts are one of the most powerful things in the universe because they work like a magnet.

This is perfectly explained by Buddha in one of his powerful quotes: “What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.”

So, if you’re constantly occupied with thinking negative thoughts that you will not succeed in finishing something, then you will not.

If you constantly feel hatred and dissatisfaction, you will attract more of it into your life. If you imagine all the bad things, you will start creating them.

But, if you love life and you’re grateful for everything, you will attract more good things in your life and more happiness.

Starting a gratitude journal is a perfect way of stimulating your brain to think of positive things only which will result in pure happiness!

11. Reduce time spent on TV, laptop, smartphone

 

Besides detox rituals and organic food, healthy habits also include reducing time spent on the TV, laptop, smartphones and any other modern devices. Did you know that smartphones emit the most radiation?

If you’ve spent some time on your smartphone before going to sleep, your brain needs at least an hour to recover from its radiation and prepare for sleep.

Many studies have shown that there is clear evidence of a relationship between cell phone use and cancer.

So, the bottom line is that all these modern devices (if used frequently) are a serious threat to our mind, body, soul, and that is why we should seriously think about reducing time spent on them and going out in the fresh air instead.

No matter what happens in your life and no matter where you are at the moment, always find time to embrace every change.

Changing is evolving. Sometimes we get lost in the process of it and think that it will bring us more harm than good.

13. Get your natural vitamin D from the Sun

 

The Sun is the biggest source of vitamin D, and it is one of the most powerful natural mood boosters.

Among others, it improves brain function and decreases the risk of many diseases like depression and Alzheimer’s.

Summarized, vitamin D is your biggest ,and whenever you have the opportunity to spend some time under the Sun and absorb tons of natural vitamin D, just do it and never stop doing it!

This practice will also help you to turn your brain off for some time and make you feel like you’re on a mini vacation—which you sure as hell deserve!

14. Increase your water intake

 

The percentage of water in our bodies is 60%-70%. I have the urge to repeat it again – 60%-70%! Wow. And the majority of us are still not drinking enough water to cover the needed daily water intake.

So, another important aspect of self-care is increasing your water intake!

Our bodies can survive for days without food but not without water, and that says for itself how important water intake really is.

Once you start increasing your water intake, your skin will start glowing, you will have more energy, and your body will ultimately be grateful for it!

15. Spend some time alone

 

Many people think that only our body requires detox, but every holistic lifestyler knows that our soul requires the same treatment, but only in a different way.

Spending some time alone is one of the most powerful ways to detox your soul!

Being alone is the perfect time to recharge yourself, look back to previous events, understand your emotions, and love yourself more.

Spending time alone is necessary to find your inner peace and recycle all the negativity from previous days.

The more frequently you have some time alone, the more often you will radiate more positive energy when spending time with others.
